I think I have other books that do a better job at providing reading list ideas. Skimming through didn’t prompt me to add more than one or two books to my To Read list. There were some I wasn’t familiar with, but the presentation didn’t generally inspire me to want to read them. I was familiar with a fair number of books and authors listed (most English majors would be) and many are repeated on multiple lists. Published in 1998, it’s a bit dated, and there’s a lot of focus on the traditional literary canon and classics. It looks like the kind of book you’d find in the bargain section at B&N (which is probably where I found it). It’s something of a miscellany, and I think it was published as an impulse buy or gift book for the literature lover in your life. This is a big, thick volume-close to dictionary size. Trying to reduce my collection of books about books, so I’m skimming through the books I’ve accumulated over the years and keeping notes on Goodreads on what I’m keeping and what I’m removing, and why. Literature Lovers Book of Lists is both exciting and informative at the same time.

It is organized into nine sections and provides nearly 200 lists relating to genres, authors, characters and settings, awards, literary terms with their definitions and much more. Wonderful for browsing, and invaluable for finding specific information, Literature Lovers Book of Lists is a compendium of useful and sometimes whimsical information for anyone who loves books and loves to read, at any age or reading level.
